Currently 35 nations including the United States, Russia, China, Japan, India, South Korea, France, Germany, the UK, Ireland, (and many more, even Switzerland!), are working together on one of the world’s biggest science projects, a $15 billion nuclear fusion reactor.
Nuclear “fusion” is much cleaner and safer than nuclear “fission”, (today’s reactors), producing no long-term radioactive waste, and with no danger of nuclear “meltdown”.
The International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor, (ITER), will attempt to recreate the power of the sun, and if successful, would produce 10 megawatts for every 1 megawatt used.
The result would be a game changer for humanity. Limitless energy for the planet, that we wouldn’t have to fight over, pump out of the ground, or set fire to.
That’s something to think about on a Thursday afternoon!
